Collaborative Vision

Our vision is to share our technology resources while maximizing strengths of partner organizations in order to enhance access for all to information and opportunities.

The Center was founded by a partnership of public and private organizations in 1996 as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Apartments Business Technology Center with the recognition that in a society increasingly shaped by technology, people who are socially and/or economically disadvantaged will be left further behind if they lack access to computers. The Center re-opened in October 2006 with upgraded hardware and software and a new name, First Step Technology Center.
